The electric locomotives of series 1000 of the Dutch State Railways are based on the SBB Ae 4/6. Unlike the Swiss locomotives, they were not designed for alternating current but for the Dutch DC network. Originally intended for express train services between the major Dutch cities, they were used almost exclusively for freight operations between 1948 and 1982. Of the ten locomotives produced, only 1010 has been preserved and can be viewed at the Railway Museum in Utrecht.
